The last class of the day, students can hear the instruments’ sound-coming from the band room. This small band, 35 people, first go into the band room, pull out their instruments, and practice until the teacher begins to talk.

The last five years, Homer High School Band has changed a lot. John Walsworth, sophomore in the band, said “There used to be so many people in the band before I started high school. Last year the band was small, but, this year, a lot of freshmen have joined the band so it’s getting better. I wish we could build the band back to former size.”

In the band, many of the musicians are freshmen, include Thomas Vanek, who thinks the Homer High School Band is pretty good size. “A Bigger band is nice because it can make a big and better sound. I think our band is a little bit small, but it’s good for the program right now” he said. Ms. Christianson, the band teacher, feels the same way as Thomas about the band, “we are now just rebuilding.”
